Write hard and clear about what hurts.

— Ernest Hemingway

Hi everyone! Welcome to my page!

My name is Megan Martin, and I am an avid social media user. As a person who straddles the line between millennial and gen z, due to various discrepancies on cut off dates, I engage in social media daily.  It is a part of my routine.  I wake up and start my day going through various apps to see what I missed the evening before, when I last checked social media. It is a mindless way to immerse myself in the day.  This may seem problematic, but I don’t find myself relying on it throughout the day. However, this attitude towards social media leaves me with a common question; is social media helpful or hurtful to people?  I am excited to discover how people and companies can use social media to their benefit.  Connecting to their audience in a more meaningful way.  On the other hand, I want to understand the costs of social media and how it can impact relationships. Are we controlled by our devices?  Mindlessly scrolling on platforms just to see how much fun other people are having in their own lives. Not truly living our own lives.  As someone who tries to maintain an accurate depiction between real life and online, I want to continue to seek out the positives of social media.  How it can be used for good? Writing is something that is powerful to me and something that I am passionate about. Integrating the two is something that I would be particularly interested to see throughout the semester. I want to focus on genuine content and how social media can be a powerful tool that builds connection, and community.
